Buyer Protection

Helping You Source Equipment with Greater Confidence

At PlantBridge Africa, we want buyers to make informed decisions when sourcing construction equipment, mining machinery, trucks, generators and industrial equipment across Africa.

Our marketplace helps buyers discover equipment and connect with dealers, suppliers and other equipment sellers. We encourage transparent listings, dealer verification and responsible buying practices to help buyers make better-informed decisions.

However, buying heavy equipment involves significant financial commitments. Buyers should independently verify the seller, equipment and transaction terms before making payment.

1. Dealer Verification

PlantBridge Africa offers a dealer verification process to help buyers identify dealers whose business documents have been reviewed.

Where a dealer displays a Verified Dealer designation, it indicates that the dealer has undergone PlantBridge Africa’s applicable business-document verification process.

Dealer verification helps provide an additional layer of information when assessing a seller. It does not guarantee the authenticity, ownership, condition, availability or performance of individual equipment listings.

Buyers should continue to conduct their own checks before entering into a transaction.

2. Verify Equipment Before You Buy

Before committing to a purchase, confirm that the equipment meets your requirements and that the listing accurately represents the machine being offered.

We recommend that buyers:

  • Confirm the make, model, serial number and specifications.
  • Verify the machine’s condition, operating hours and maintenance history.
  • Request recent photographs, videos and relevant documentation.
  • Arrange a physical inspection or engage an independent equipment inspector where appropriate.
  • Confirm the equipment’s location and availability.
  • Request evidence of ownership or the seller’s authority to sell.
  • Check import, customs or registration documents where applicable.

For high-value equipment, an independent inspection can help identify defects or discrepancies that may not be apparent from photographs or a listing description.

3. Protect Yourself from Payment Fraud

For equipment listed by third-party sellers, buyers arrange payment directly with the seller. PlantBridge Africa does not hold third-party purchase funds in escrow under its standard marketplace model.

Before transferring money:

  • Confirm the identity of the person or business selling the equipment.
  • Verify payment instructions directly with the agreed seller.
  • Check that the payment beneficiary matches the transaction arrangements.
  • Obtain a written quotation, invoice or sale agreement.
  • Agree on the price, payment schedule, delivery terms and handover arrangements in writing.
  • Keep copies of payment confirmations and transaction correspondence.
  • Be cautious of pressure to pay immediately, unexplained changes to bank details, unusually low prices or requests to pay unrelated third parties.

Avoid making substantial payments until you have completed the checks appropriate to the transaction.

Where PlantBridge Africa itself is selling the equipment, the transaction and payment arrangements are made directly with PlantBridge Africa.

4. Communicate Clearly with Sellers

Clear communication helps buyers establish what is being offered and what the seller has agreed to provide.

Before finalising a transaction, obtain written confirmation of:

  • The exact equipment being purchased.
  • Its condition and agreed specifications.
  • The final purchase price and currency.
  • Any deposit and balance-payment arrangements.
  • The delivery location, timeline and responsibility for transport.
  • Any warranty, after-sales support or other commitments.
  • The documents to be provided at handover.

Do not rely solely on verbal assurances for important transaction terms.

5. Understand PlantBridge Africa’s Role

PlantBridge Africa operates as an equipment marketplace that connects buyers with sellers. Third-party sellers are responsible for the accuracy of their listings, their representations about the equipment, and the transactions they arrange with buyers.

What PlantBridge Africa providesWhat buyers should do
A platform to discover listed equipmentConfirm availability and suitability with the seller
Dealer business-document verification where applicableIndependently assess the seller and the specific machine
Access to listing and seller information supplied through the platformVerify important details and request supporting evidence
A channel for reporting concerns about listingsRetain evidence and report suspected fraud or misleading information promptly

A listing on PlantBridge Africa does not, by itself, mean that the equipment has been physically inspected, independently authenticated or guaranteed by the platform.

6. What If Something Looks Suspicious?

If you encounter a listing, seller or communication that raises concerns, take precautions before proceeding.

  1. Pause the transaction and do not send further payment while material concerns remain unresolved.
  2. Save the listing URL, screenshots, messages, invoices and relevant payment details.
  3. Contact PlantBridge Africa to report the concern.
  4. If you suspect payment fraud, contact your bank or payment provider promptly and ask whether any protective action is available.
  5. Consider reporting suspected fraud to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.

PlantBridge Africa can review concerns relating to activity on its platform and take appropriate action within its control. We cannot guarantee recovery of funds transferred directly to a seller.

7. Report a Listing or Seller Concern

If you believe a listing contains misleading information, a seller may be impersonating another business, or an attempted transaction may be fraudulent, please contact us.

When reporting a concern, include:

  • The equipment listing link.
  • The seller or dealer name.
  • A description of the concern.
  • Relevant screenshots or correspondence, where available.

8. Frequently Asked Questions

Does Verified Dealer status guarantee a safe transaction?

No. It indicates that the dealer has undergone the applicable business-document verification process. It is not a guarantee of every listing, machine or transaction.

Does PlantBridge Africa inspect every machine?

No. Buyers should not assume that equipment has been physically inspected or tested by PlantBridge Africa unless this has been expressly confirmed for the specific machine.

Does PlantBridge Africa hold buyer payments until delivery?

No. Under the standard marketplace model, buyers and third-party sellers arrange payments directly. PlantBridge Africa does not provide escrow for these transactions.

What should I do if a seller requests payment to a different account?

Pause the transaction and independently verify the change with the agreed seller through a trusted communication channel before making any payment.

Can PlantBridge Africa help if a transaction goes wrong?

You can report the issue to PlantBridge Africa. We can review concerns relating to platform activity and consider appropriate action within our control. However, we cannot guarantee a refund, dispute resolution outcome or recovery of funds paid directly to a seller.

How can I report suspected fraud?

Email info@plantbridgeafrica.com with the listing link, seller details and supporting evidence. If money has already been transferred, contact your bank or payment provider promptly as well.
